Stressed Out?
Stress should not be a part of your every day life. But sometimes the demands of life exceed our abilities and cause physical, emotional, and spiritual burdens that feel too much to handle. Here are a few things you can do when you feel overwhelmed:
Decide what is most important. Understand that nothing is more important than your relationship with God. Make sure nothing is interfering with your relationship with Him. A ton of "little things" can cause stress, but clearing those aside to focus on your relationship with God can clear your heart and mind.
Address difficult circumstances appropriately. Some stressful things in life cannot be avoided, so we must learn to deal with them appropriately. First, ask yourself if the stressful circumstance is something out of your control. If it is, learn to surrender it to the Lord and let Him deal with it. Second, ask yourself if the stressful circumstance is something that resulted from your choices. Small decisions to procrastinate, spend unnecessary money, or react to a problem with anger or fear can bring consequences that are stressful. Seek forgiveness and learn to apply 1 Peter 5:7, "Casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you." Even the stress that is your fault is something God wants to help you handle.
Change the way you think. Let your mind be filled with what God has to say instead of what is causing stress. Isaiah 26:3 says, "Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on thee." God gives relief from stress in Philippians 4:6, " Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God." Don't worry about anything, pray about everything. Don't dwell on what makes you mad, focus on what makes you thankful.
