Cornerstone
Baptist Church was organized in November 1982 with 18 charter members.
TerryL.
Randolph, Jr. was called to be the pastor of the church. At that
time, the church was leasing property owned by the city
of Phoenix. Because of a new road connector to be built in that part of the city, the
church was forced to relocate to its present location on east Phelps
Road. It purchased a ranch style home with 1 ½ acres of land. Phelps
Road is a small, almost unheard of street in northeast Phoenix.
Regardless, God blessed the relocation.
With approximately $30,000 and a lot of faith in God, the small congregation began building
their
first auditorium in November of 1984. With the skilled labor of
church members doing much of the work, and most of the funding coming from the members, the new auditorium
was completed in less than two years and dedicated on October 12,
1986. A few years later, a fellowship hall and office area were added to this property. The existing home, which had been used as a parsonage,
was renovated and became Sunday School classes and nurseries.
Eventually, an additional modular building was added for more Sunday School classrooms. All the building exteriors
were finished give a consistent
look to the properties.

This
was just the beginning. Within a few short years the congregation
outgrew their auditorium. For nearly four years, the church held two
morning worship servicesto accomodate the growth. The congregation
raised money to purchase approximately 1½ acres of property across
the street from the main facilities. This new acreage is just one
half block from a main road in Phoenix.
A new
auditorium was constructed on that property, seating 500, and was
dedicated on December 15, 1996. The building faces Bell Road and our church steeple can be seen for several blocks. Because of the need for more SS
space, offices and nurseries, a new piece of property adjacent to
the new auditorium was purchased from the city of Phoenix with approximately
1¼ acres. The plans are to build a multi-purpose fellowship hall, offices,
larger nurseries and additional parking for our growing church. Current building will then be remodeled for additional Sunday School classes.
The Lord has blessed Cornerstone Baptist Church. We
have almost 5 acres of land and buildings. We support over 100 missionaries,
both at home and on many foreign fields. We have an active and exciting
AWANA ministry with well over 100 in attendance weekly. We have a
current membership of over 400. We offer a Discipleship class, an Sunday School classes for all age groups, a weekly nursing home ministry,
and several children's ministries. You can read more about our ministries
here. Everything we have is because
of Christ. We pray everything we do will bring souls to Him and
glorify His name.
